Heirloom and heritage seeds often come with rich family stories. Sara Straate will share how Seed Savers Exchange works to preserve both the seeds and the stories behind them.
When immigrant ancestors came to the United States, many brought precious seeds with them, a well-documented practice among families with rural or farming roots. Some descendants still carry on this legacy, preserving seeds passed down through generations.
Do you have heirloom or heritage seeds in your own family? If so, you could donate them and the stories they carry to help preserve this living history. Come learn how to share your seeds and their stories!
Sara Straate is the seed historian for the Seeds Savers Exchange (SSE), located in Decorah, Iowa. SSE has over 20,000 seeds in its repository and an active online seed exchange network. Seeds are also available for purchase through their catalog.

The Main Library is located in downtown Mount Prospect, next to Village Hall. The building houses an extensive collection of materials, spaces for quiet and collaborative work, several program rooms, public computers, a dedicated teen space, and engaging play area for children.
