Book Summary: Astrid Rosenthal, a young Jewish woman, escapes to Warsaw a few days before the liquidation of the ghetto. On her way, she meets Walter Schmidt, an SS officer. Initially, the man is smitten with Astrid until her true identity is revealed. Fortunately, Astrid manages to escape from the hands of the enemy and, by an unexpected twist of fate, finds shelter in a laundry operated by a German woman. The paths of the heroes will constantly intersect. Walter will try to find Astrid at all costs. She, in turn, will do anything not to get caught, because she knows that it will end tragically for her. However, she has no idea what the SS officer is really guided by when looking for a girl.
