In this unique meet-the-author program, get an inside peek into Valenti's creative process. Then, customize your own magical world with a tabletop adventure board game.
Best for ages 6-11.
Karla Arenas Valenti's books thrill (and sometimes chill) with page-turning stories of daring, dangerous quests. Set in worlds full of Mexican culture and lore, the brave heroes of her books use ingenuity — plus a little magic — to help their friends and family. Check out the Legendarios series, or her middle grade chapter books Lotería or Lola.
In this exciting and interactive program, meet the author and use elements from her magical worlds to design an adventurous board game that you can take home and play. Using air-dry clay and specialty game pieces, you’ll create a 3D world where your customized characters work together to collect treasures needed for a healing potion. Can you complete the quest before the volcano erupts?
Feel free to submit questions for the author when you register. If you'd like an autograph, use your program brochure, bring your own book, or purchase one of Karla Arenas Valenti's books at the event, available from local bookstore, Booked Evanston.
Please register each child. For this program, an adult must attend the program with the child participant, but adults do not need to be registered.
